Bonnyville RCMP Solve Large Scale Rural Break, Enter & Theft.

Between June 17, 2018 and June 19, 2018, members from the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment and the St Paul RCMP Detachment with the assistance of the Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit (EAD RCRU) conducted an intensive investigation following a break and enter and theft from a rural property North of Therien in Bonnyville County.

This joint effort resulted in multiple arrests, the execution of multiple arrest warrants, a search warrant execution, and the seizure of stolen property, drugs, and weapons.

On June 17, 2018 a residence on a rural property in Bonnyville County was broken into and a significant amount of property and a high end sports car were stolen.

On June 18, 2018, vehicles used in the break and enter were later spotted in St Paul at a residence by RCMP members.  Two males were arrested at the scene.  Further intelligence gathered led RCMP to locating the stolen sports car in Foisy, Alberta.

On June 19, 2018, a search warrant was executed at the residence in St Paul, which led to the recovery of drugs and weapons.  A female on outstanding warrants was located and arrested.  The investigation continued leading to the arrest of a third male in Bonnyville in relation to his involvement in the break and enter.  Further to this, another property was searched in Goodridge which led to the recovery of a stolen quad from St Paul and the arrest of second female on outstanding warrants.

34 year old Chad CARDINAL from Saddle lake has been charged with:

  • Breaking and entering
  • Theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Failing to comply with conditions of a recognizance
  • Possession of a controlled substance.

63 year old James CARLEN of St. Paul County has been charged with:

  • Breaking and entering
  • Theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000

Both males were held in custody, appeared in St Paul Provincial Court on June 21, 2018 and have subsequent court appearances on June 28th (Chad Cardinal) and July 3rd (James Carlen).

A 47 year old male from St. Paul and a 33 year old female from Fort Saskatchewan are also facing charges with a court date of August 21, 2018.
