“It’s the tremendous support from the community that allows us to do what we do,” President of Rednecks with a Cause, Gary Mostert said Saturday evening at the group’s annual Gala. “We are so blessed.” Through ticket sales, live, and silent auctions the Rednecks were able to raise $37,886.50

Support was overwhelming, said Gary, “we sold 240 tickets, in about a week.” As he explains the group picked a date and almost immediately sold out for the event, “within the first ten days.”

“It’s amazing, we’re getting some traction in the community,” Gary said the group will continue to bring autism awareness and support services to the community, thanks to funds raised at the Gala, “we’re going to be able to make it bigger and better.”

This year, the group brought in world-renown speaker Temple Grandin. Gary said it’ll be hard, but they’re going to continue to reach higher goals, he added there’s a few speakers they’re looking at bringing in for next year.

“We are looking at bringing in a speaker who specializing in assisting older children and helping find employment for older teens and young adults with autism. We want to be able to give parents with older children the tools they need to succeed, as their kids are entering the job market.”

“We also want to bring in more tools for the teachers and schools,” three years ago, Rednecks donated funds to every school in Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Ardmore and Iron River so that the school could develop sensory rooms. “We want to be able to help them with funding to further improve the sensory rooms. We have to be able to give them the physical tools that they need, at the schools, in the Lakeland”.

“We have seen significant increase in resources from all the schools that have received money from us. We are looking to expand on that program. So that the schools can keep on improving their facilities, as well.”

A long term goal of the group is to open a facility for children and adults with autism. A safe place for them to play and learn and to give parents a chance to receive greater support or even a break while being comfortable that their child is safe.

During the summer, Rednecks offer up BBQ services for donations. The team will come in and flip burgers at your business or community BBQ to allow you to mingle with guests. If you are interested in hiring Rednecks with a Cause call Gary at 780-573-6606.
