Racers in the Cold Lake Blizzards Alpine Ski Team are turning heads as they fly down the hills of Alberta with skill and finesse. Members of the Blizzards participated in two races over the weekend, one a Provincial Series and one a Nancy Greene League Race.
Three athletes participate in the Alberta Alpine Provincial Series Jasper U14 Grande Slalom race on January 21 & 22nd. provincial program intended to progress young skiers from the Learn to Train to the Learn to Race stages of skill development. The program provides a competitive series for 12 and 13 year old skiers, which allows them to test their skills against their peers at a provincial level.
Chiara Harris (12), Ben Sylvestre (12) and Nathan Sylvestre (13). Nathan Sylvestre earned a gold medal win on the first GS race with a 1.72 second lead on the next competitor. Chiara Harris completed the weekend with a top placement of 26th out of 73 females and and Ben Sylvestre finishing in the top 50% of all males. All three athletes will be representing Zone 7 at the Alberta Winter Games in Fort McMurray this February.
On January 21st, eight racers from the Cold Lake Blizzards Alpine Ski Team took part in the Sundance Invitational Race, a Nancy Green Ski League Race for North Zone U8, U10 and U12 racers. 189 racers took part in this race held at Sunridge Ski Area and hosted by Edmonton Ski Club. There were many top ten finishes for the Blizzards racers.

The Blizzards practice at Kinosoo Ridge Snow Resort. You can catch them, if you look quick enough, every Sunday on the hill. There will be a Nancy Greene Race held at Kinosoo Ridge on February 10th and 11th, 2018. The event will include North Zone Male and Female Nancy Greene ski racers in the U6, U8, U10 and U12 age categories.
