Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

On January 23, 2018, at approximately 6:15 p.m. Kitscoty RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 897, approximately 1 mile north of Highway 16.

The initial investigation has determined that a north bound pickup truck after overtaking two vehicles, struck the rear end of a third vehicle, also travelling north bound. The pickup truck then lost control and entered the east ditch.

An adult male passenger was located deceased at the scene. The driver, an adult male and the only other occupant, is seriously injured and is on route by air to an Edmonton hospital with life threatening injuries.

North bound traffic is currently being re-routed at the east entrance to Kitscoty. South bound traffic is being re-routed at Township Road 510.

An RCMP traffic analyst is on scene and is assisting with the investigation. All possible contributing factors related to this collision are being considered, and the collision remains under investigation. No further information is available at this time.
