A Win + A Loss for the Sr. Pontiacs
The Bonnyville Sr. Pontiacs evened out this weekend, with a win and a loss on home ice. On Saturday the Seniors took out Westlock 8-1. The Sunday matinee game did not fare as well for the boys, with a 5-2 loss to Devon, The game also ended with some key injuries to Devon Kalinsky, Mike Desjarlais, and Beau Ferbey. Status on the playes’ conditions for this weekend is unknown.
Game 1 vs. Westlock
In this league, anyone can beat anyone… We can’t take other teams for granted,” Assistant Coach of the Sr. Pontiacs, Corey Wandler says despite Westlock being bottom of the North Central Senior Men’s Hockey League, the team will come in prepare.
The Sr. Pontiacs put up a firing squad with some mean aronsal on Saturday evening versus Westlock. Dante Borrelli took first blood in five minutes into the game with help from Ty Carey and Beau Ferbey. The goal was followed up by fan favourite duo Devon Kalinski and Lucas Isley. Westlock’s Scott Ivey put one past Pontiacs’ goalie, Josh Paul, to make it a 2-1 game after 20 minutes.
The Pontiacs would go on to keep Westlock off the board; while lighting it up six more times. Goals from Lucas Isley, Mike Desjarlais (x2), Ty Carey, Jordan Fuder, and another from Devon Kalinski to close the game.

Game 2 vs Devon
Head Coach Brad Paice, of the Sr. Pontiacs, “overall, I thought the boys played alright. We had a slow start to the game, which tends to happen in afternoon games”. By halfway through the second period, Devon was up 3-0 on the Seniors, when Devon Kalinski with the assistance of Beau Ferbey and Joel Olszowka put in the first goal for the Yaks. Devon would go on to score two more, while the Pontiacs only one; ending the game 5-2.
Near the end of the game, three of the Seniors’ top men went down, Devon Kalinsky, Mike Desjarlais, and Beau Ferbey. Coach Paice says their status is unknown for this upcoming weekend; but is confident the team will be well-rounded enough to push through. “We’re pretty lucky this year, we have seven or eight guys ready to go on any given night. We’re just going to have to push through.”
