Lakeland Peewee Jaguars bring home Bell Capital Cup
The Lakeland Peewee Jaguars were selected to represent Alberta in the Bell Capital Cup in Ottawa, from December 27th to 29th. The Tournament invited the best female Peewee AA teams in the country. Head Coach of the Peewee Jaguars, James Stokes, “we got selected to represent Team Alberta at the Canada 150 female division.”
After taking the round robin with five wins and no loses, the club went to the finals. Meeting New Bruinswick at the Canadian Tire Centre, where the Ottawa Senators play. “It was cool for a parent and a coach,” smiles Coach Stokes, “it was pretty hectic, we were going non-stop six games in three days.” The Jags took the game to overtime, with a 3-2 final.
The tournament was such a great experience for the kids, “a lot of these girls would’ve never gotten the opportunity to go to our nation’s capital, and they got to play hockey while they did it.” It was also easy on the parent’s pocket books, says the coach, “everything was paid for; air fare, accommodations, buses for when we got there. The only thing we had to pay for was food.”
The Peewee Jags are enjoying local success this season. Sitting in second place, in the East Central Alberta Female Hockey League, the Jags have 10 points in 8 games, with a 5-3-0 record.
