On December 20th, a Bonnyville resident who was believed to be on drugs, hit another female with a shovel. The victim ended up in the hospital, “she was quite injured and that is still under investigation.”

Constable Wanda Decoste explains that sometimes, despite the severity of the assault, the victim may drop the complaint and without a complainant the police cannot charge. “Sometimes you have grounds to charge, but the complainants or the victims do not want charges. That often happens if they are family.”

“We’re unsure at this time where this case will go,” the RCMP will continue to investigate the assault and make an arrest should there be grounds and a victim.
