The Bonnyville RCMP are reminding the public to take precautions against vehicle theft, by locking up. Many vehicle thefts are crimes of opportunity; whether that is theft of the vehicle itself, or theft of the items inside the vehicle.

RCMP remind people not to leave their keys in the vehicle. If you are leaving your vehicle running, use a command start where the keys do not have to be in the vehicle to leave it running. If you do not have command start, always lock your vehicle with a second set of keys. RCMP further advise not to leave any valuables in your vehicle.

Many thefts occur when thieves see an opportunity, RCMP say do not give them that opportunity.
