Missing Man suspect in Stolen Vehicle case; still missing.

On November 13th, in the late afternoon, Cold Lake RCMP, along with the Bonnyville RCMP and the Elk Point RCMP, were in pursuit of two stolen vehicles. A spike belt was deployed in the area of Highway 897 and Township Road 583, which disabled one of the stolen vehicles. At that location RCMP arrested a 21 year old male, from Edmonton.

Austin Crevier is facing charges:

  • Operating a motor vehicle while being pursued by police
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000

Crevier was released on a $10,000 no-cash recognizance and will next appear in a St. Paul Provincial Court.

The pursuit continued with the second stolen vehicle, explains Staff Sergaent of the Cold Lake Detachment, Jeremie Landry, “we eventually were able to stop [the vehicle]. We arrested a 17 year old male, from Edmonton.” Seized was a loaded rifle, in the front passenger seat, within reach of the driver Due to his age, the second arrested cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The 17 year old male is facing 18 charges:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • 3 x possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • 1 x possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon with a dangerous purpose
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Possession of cocaine
  • 3 x failing to comply with a probation order
  • 2 x failing to comply with a court order
  • Operating a vehicle without an operator’s licence
  • Operating an uninsured vehicle

The youth was remanded into custody and next appears in St. Paul Youth Justice Court on November 22nd at 10:00 am.

“We later learned that Kelvin Cardinal Jr., who is the subject of the missing person case, was a suspect in the first stolen vehicle and had fled into the woods at 897 & 583,” S/Sgt. Landry explains that it was dark when the first vehicle was stopped, “we determined the following day we had it confirmed via police car video that he is observed exiting the car and fleeing into the woods.”

Cardinal has not returned home and has not been seen since. “Currently, we have a search team in place. We have been searching since Tuesday morning. We have resources that have been brought in from across the province,” included in the search operations are the Special Services Tactical Team, confirms Landry. “We have two civilian search and rescue managers that are assisting us in the coordination of the search, we also have a search manager that is leading the search and being assisted by the civilian search and rescue.” The RCMP air services have attended on a few occasions and an RCMP drone has been up in an attempt to locate Cardinal. “The ground search continues, both on foot and snowmobile.”

Kelvin Cardinal Jr. was last seen entering the woods in a long sleeved red shirt, no jacket, and sweatpants. Anyone with information on Cardinal’s whereabouts or is available to assist in the search and rescue efforts is asked to contact the Cold Lake Detachment at 780-594-3302. RCMP are also looking for a 23 year old female that was inside the vehicle during the pursuit. At some point during the pursuit she exited the vehicle. RCMP believe she is safe and have a warrant issued for her arrest.
