On August 29th, the Cold Lake RCMP received a complaint that there was an attempted theft at a rural property in the Municipal District of Bonnyville. “A suspect showed up in a stolen white Dodge RAM truck,” S/Sgt. Jeremie Landry explains, “while at the residence, attempted to steal a 9.9 horsepower engine off the back of a boat. Also attempted to steal a 2005 Chevy Silverado.” The suspect broke the steering column of the truck, in the theft attempt.
“The suspect was eventually scared off by neighbours, who were checking on the property,” S/Sgt. Landry says the suspect then took off in the stolen Dodge RAM. “An officer on patrol observed the stolen truck in question at the gas station, north of Highway 55 and 892 junction (Northern Lights Truck Stop).” The officer attempted to stop the suspect; however, he and vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, “excessive of 180 km/hour,” confirms S/Sgt. Landry.
“A short time later, the same officer observed the same stolen vehicle, on a township road, again at a very high rate of speed,” the suspect was able to flee the scene. At that time the officer attended Northern Lights Truck Stop to review video footage, says S/Sgt. Landry.
On September 15th, Cold Lake RCMP received a call of a stolen truck, a Ford F-550 Picker, that was equipped with a GPS; which lead to a search warrant. “The Cold Lake RCMP, through investigation, executed a search warrant at a Cold Lake north residence,” an arrest came from the search warrant, confirms S/Sgt.
