It continues to be a huge first year for the new NEAJBHL franchise. The Lac La Biche Clippers opened Main Camp with tamed expectations. Theysaw about 60+ kids hit the ice at different points of the camp.
“We had a total of about 62 or 63 kids attend camp. it was a lot of guys coming out for one, but we would never see them again. It was closer to 40 that were the full camp. The numbers were so big we couldn’t really do as much drills, it was a lot of scrimmages. Or else guys would have to wait forever to get into drills, but it was good.” Head Coach Terry Ewasiuk explains.
Local kids get the chance
A main focus of the Clippers Main Camp was generating a buzz about the team in the minor hockey community surrounding town. Kids from as far as Athabasca, and Fort McMurray made their way to the camp. The camp saw heavy attendance from communities around Lac La Biche.
“We knew we needed to get the communities involved, and we reached out to them. Everybody responded, it was pretty good opportunity. it was a pleasant surprise.” Coach Ewasiuk says.
Exhibition schedule ahead
As of right now, the Clippers have two games scheduled on the exhibition season. They will have a home and home this Friday, and Saturday against the Onion Lake Border Chiefs. Coach Ewasiuk hopes it will be a big weekend to see what the team hopefuls are going to feature. The kids remaining will get a chance to play in the games.
“It’s all we have right now. Our manager is trying to set up. It’s a good start . We’re excited to get going. The community is excited. When the season comes, we will have our own dressing room. It’ll have stalls like the Voyageurs, actually we are mimicking their dressing room. It’s great for the kids.” Coach Ewasiuk says.
