Bonnyville Voyageurs Test Roster in Sherwood Park Jamboree

The boys have been hard at it for two weeks now. On Saturday, the Bonnyville Voyageurs got the chance to test their skills in simulated gameplay. The Voyageurs were in Sherwood Park for a pre-season jamboree.

Tough breaks

The Voyageurs traveled to Sherwood Park with a few injuries following them. They faced Bev Facey, Scona, and Leduc. All teams are from the Edmonton area, with Scona and Bev Facey being Tier 1. The Voyageurs found comfortable competition against the Leduc side. The roster wasn’t 100% complete as it will be come Friday, but Head Coach Larry Godziuk says the boys got valuable experience.

“It went okay, we scored and got scored on. We used it as the day to make some roster decisions on who will start where for the first game this weekend. Scona and Bev Facey are both tier 1 teams, so they’re tier 1 for a reason. It was a bit of an eye opener for some guys, but at the same time they gained some really valuable experience.” Coach Godziuk explains.

Ready for Friday

Things are finally set for the Voyageurs to hit the field in Bonnyville. BUT they will most likely be playing on grass for the first game on Labour Day (September 1). They will face Whitecourt on the grass field behind Blue Water Court Apartments. The decision comes as uncertainty about Walsh Field’s competition date still exists. Godziuk expects the football teams will be on Walsh Field very soon.

“We’re not confident it will be done, so we’re gonna host Whitecourt. They’re happy to be playing on the grass field.” Coach Godziuk says.
