Beating MS – One Burger at a Time

Local A&W restaurants held their annual Burgers to Beat MS on Thursday, August 24th, to great response. On that day, A&W’s donated back $2 from every Teen Burger to Multiple Sclerosis research and patient care. In Bonnyville, along with their charitable donation, they held a car show and unique to Bonnyville a Toy Car Show.

1023 Teen Burgers were sold at the Bonnyville location, with $2 from every burger going to the MS Society, that’s a guaranteed $2,046… But there’s more donations to be counted. Each car entered in the show made a donation to the cause, as did the toy car entries. People also made monetary donations when visiting the restaurant. The grand total is expected over the next few weeks.

As for the car shows, both were grand successes, says organizer of the Toy Car Show, James Purdy, “They had over 30 big (actual) cars entered in the Car Show and we had close to 50 entries in the Toy Car Show.” The Toy Car show is the brain child of James’ nine year old son, Griffin. This was the third year the show has been held in Bonnyville. Each person who enters a toy car in the show pays a dollar entry fee. The cars are judged by the fans, with the winner receiving a trophy. This year, Jax Gamache took home the trophy for fan favourite car. “It was really cool because his dad had an actual car in the show,” James says it was nice to see families out participating in the event.

“This is such a fun community event,” James anticipates the Toy Car Show will be back next year and for many more to come, “It’s a great fundraiser and great awareness event for the MS Society. I’m looking forward to next year.”
