Métis Days is Saturday

Fishing Lake celebrating culture and history at annual Métis Days on Saturday. Council Chair, Terry Parenteau says the event is a great opportunity to learn more about the Settlement and meet up with old friends. Parenteau says there are some  positions open for people wanting to have fun and help out during the day.

“Anybody and everybody is welcome to visit us in Fishing Lake and enjoy the wonderful community that we have,” Parenteau would like to send an open invitation to all the surrounding communities and the people in the region to come enjoy the day Saturday,  or any other day. “We just recently redid our main beach area. It’s quite the draw. It’s only for day-use and weekend camping. We also have our main camping area, Riel Beach and that’s open to anybody and everybody who would like to enjoy the lake front.”

“We are looking for coordinators for various events. It’s a contract position, there will be a lot of events happening.” Parenteau says they are currently looking for demonstrators for the following:

  • Traditional cooking
  • Hunting & trapping
  • Fishing & fish frying
  • Canning
  • Traditional crafts & games
  • Storytelling
  • Canvas games

Along with traditional demonstrations, there will be fun competitions. Including, a Bullet Soup and Oven Bannock making competition, an Egg Noodle and Oven Bannock competition, a Fried Bannock competition, and Indian Popcorn making competition. The event is also looking for vendors to sell food and other items.
