Cop Corner with S/Sgt Luis Gandolfi, Issue No. 36

Well after a decline in vehicles thefts it seems that our numbers have started to climb yet again.  During the month of July we’ve received nine theft of truck complaints, four SUV complaints, several quad and ATV thefts and even a minivan was stolen.  My math tells me that’s almost twenty stolen vehicles of some kind in one month, and that’s not including trailers or other common items.
Please, please, please lock up your vehicle and take your keys with you when you park.  This won’t stop all thefts but it would reduce the number by more than half I’m sure.  I’ve never seen a vehicle with “The Club” or some other similar device stolen, and alarm systems work wonders to get them thinking about that other vehicle instead of yours.
More often than not these thefts are crimes of convenience.  Certain makes and models are easier to steal than others, certain classes of vehicles are more common, eg. diesel pickup trucks.  Have photos of your vehicle on hand, keep house keys and firearms out, park under well lit areas and lock your doors.  And, perhaps most importantly, don’t go after these guys if they steal your property.  They don’t care about you or the couple driving down the street.  These guys and gals are your typical TV criminals, narcissistic individuals lacking intelligence who show no remorse and give no thought to anyone’s well-being but their own.  They have no honour, are shameless and probably drunk, high, or both.  Your safety and security just don’t matter to them so make the right call.  We’re working on it…Stay Safe.
