Buckin’ Eh?!
Lane Cust wowed the home crowd in buckin’ style, during the Bonnyville Pro Rodeo last weekend. The 22 year old, from Ardmore, is all smiles as he reflects on his Friday evening draw, “she was a little bit of work, can’t always draw the good ones.”
“Coming here is a special feeling. You go to a lot of [rodeos], it’s good to come to one that’s home. It’s a special one,” Cust says there’s nothing like performing for the home crowd.
After a long haul up from Cheyenne, Wyoming, Lane says he had one thing on his mind, “you can’t go down in front of the home crowd.” He finish forth in Wyoming and says he’s got a lot of year left ahead of him. He headed down to Medicine Hat immediately after the Bonnyville show wrapped up and is expected to continue onto some Franklin Rodeo matches. The Franklin Rodeo Company, based out of Bonnyville, provides horses and bulls to rodeos; some of the best bucking horses and bulls in the province.
Every weekend through the rodeo season, Cust is onto two or three rodeos, he laughs, “that’s every weekend. Especially, traveling down south, you usually only get a day or two at home. There’s lots of traveling, but lots of fun to be had.”
One of his most memorable stops on the circuit was the Calgary Stampede, “I got a last minute call to go. Just to be there was huge. You have to earn your spot there. I’m looking forward to going back and earning it.”
