The Final Countdown

 The mosquitoes are seated in Tier # 5 and as of press time didn’t know if they would be hosting or going to another town, but their finals will be a 6 team tournament starting this coming weekend as well. Over in Sherwood Park this past weekend our Mosquitoes won one out of three games, defeating Sherwood Park 17 to 4 in their first game, then losing a close on 12 to 9 against Sylvan Lake and to South Jasper Place 20 to 13. A home run for Koltin Davis in the first game, Ryker Neumier with a double and two singles, two doubles and a single for the “Mighty Casey” Warawa, a double and two singles for Sam “the Spiderman” Rogal, a single each for Timmy “the Tank” Cardinal and Raif “Rug Rat” Evans-Anderson. In the second game a double for Janyka-Dawn Evans -Anderson. In the third game a home run for the “Spiderman” two singles and a double for Vaughn “the Vulture” Ockerman.

The bantams played one of their rained out games against Stettler this past Wednesday night,  meeting half way the game played in Vegreville, the boys coming out on top 17 to 14. they then traveled to Whitecourt this past weekend losing all three of their games. They did get some good pitching by Dalton “007” Reed who chucked 90 pitches in one game and also laid down a beauty of a sacrifice bunt. Cody “the Babe” Fairbairn crushing a huge h2 run homer out of the park was also up on the hill for 91 pitches.

This coming weekend the bantam boys pitch count is increased to 100 pitches and its good to see they will be able to go the distance. “Danny Boy” Cardinal had a good weekend at the plate driving in a few runs hitting a double and a couple of RBI singles. Lane Peters driving one to the center field fence, Brodie Roux getting on base twice with bunts.

Elk Point product, the ace pitcher  “Captain Obvious”, Austin Stafford playing midget ball with the Marwayne Huskies won all four of their round robin games this past weekend beating South Jasper Park, St. Paul, Millwoods and Grand Prarie. “Captain Obvious” coming in the 7th inning to close out the game against St. Paul, and starting the next one against SJP. This coming weekend they will be playing in their midget AA provincial final, the location TBD,

Is it better to win all your games or lose all and gain the experience? The experience is good as long as you don’t get too discouraged with losing, same as winning, its good as long as you don’t get to confident  and figure your unbeatable. I like to be somewhere in the middle, challenged but still able to pull off the odd upset in the provincial finals.

Close but no cigars for our Lakeland AA peewee team playing up in the tier # 2 now for the final round. They played in some very close games in Weteskwin this past weekend against the host, Sedwick and the Edmonton Padres. They lost all three, but gaining that valuable experience we just talked about and they are looking forward to coming to the tournament as the underdogs upsetting some of the top teams at the tier # 2 provincial finals held in Leduc on the weekend of Aug 4th to 6th.
