Male Charged after B+E involving Weapons

Suspect broke into residence and threatened victim with various weapons.

On May 29th, just after 10:00 pm, RCMP responded to a Cold Lake South residence, where it was reported that a male was at a person’s door with a baseball bat. When RCMP had arrived, the suspect had already left the scene in a vehicle.

A statement was obtained from a witness. Prior to the police’s arrival, it was determined that the suspect had attended the residence with a crossbow. The suspect ended up climbing into the residence through an open window. He was convinced to leave eventually. He was then seen driving around the victim’s house, several times, and then exited the vehicle with a baseball bat.

The suspect entered the home a second time and attempted to strike another male that was inside the residence. The suspect was then chased out of the residence and the police were called.

RCMP members waited in the area for approximately an hour and a half. It was then that the suspected arrived back at the residence in the same vehicle. It was then the suspect was arrested. The male was found in possession of two knives, a crossbow with arrows and alcohol inside the vehicle.

“In a case like this, we do not release the identity of the suspect as it would identify the victim,” S/Sgt Jeremie Landry, with the Cold Lake RCMP explains, “the victim has already been traumatized enough by this incident.”

Charges have been laid against a 28 year old male, from Cold Lake. Charges include break & enter, mischief under $5,000, one count of failing to comply with an undertaking, four counts of failing to comply with a recognizance and two counts of assault with a weapon (baseball bat and crossbow), two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of being in possession of a weapon contrary to an order.

The suspect appear in front of a Justice of the Peace in Cold Lake Provincial Court and bail was denied. His next court appearance in June 14th, 2017.
