Peewee Lakeland Lacrosse Players Shine at Team Alberta Tryouts

April 2 was opening weekend for Peewee Team Alberta tryouts. Three peewee players from the Lakeland advanced to the second round of tryouts, which were held on April 8 and 9 Edmonton.

Call of a lifetime

Cold Lake’s Andrew Chio was informed on Tuesday, April 11, that he will represent Peewee Team Alberta in Whitby, Ontario. Chio secured one of 18 spots with Team Alberta. 40 other children from across competed for the spots. Only two other players from the Lakeland Lacrosse Association have ever made Team Alberta.  Peewee Team Alberta will compete in August in Whitby, so will all other levels of provincial lacrosse.

“I didn’t expect to make it, I was doing it mostly for a camp. When I made it I was very surprised.” Andrew Chio says of his unexpected call.

Castin Bibeau and Bennett Frey are the two others who made it to the second weekend. The tryouts featured the best players in Alberta, and the top level of coaching offered in the province.

Lakeland Lacrosse excelling at development

“This accomplishment of these boys has proved that we are creating good development up here in the North. We have a solid dedicated group of volunteers, coaches and parents. They help make these dreams become reality.” Crystal Frey, media coordinator with Lakeland Lacrosse, says.

On April 22, Lakeland Lacrosse will have more players trying out for provincials. That weekend will feature Midget tryouts.
