Local hockey talent headed to Canmore
The Alberta Cup takes place in Canmore from April 26 – April 30. The tournament will feature the top 160 hockey players in Alberta born in 2002. The tournament is a showcase for the WHL draft and U-17 Hockey Challenge.
Two players from Bonnyville will draw the eyes of scouts during the weekend. A.J. Macaulay and Seth Hebert will represent the North East Zone at the tournament. Both played in Lloydminster Bantam AAA this year.
A.J. Macaulay put up 8 goals and 11 assists on the blue line for Lloydminster.
Neil Langridge, who will coach the North East Zone, describes Macaulay as “an elite skater, a very offensive defencemen who loves to jump up in the play with a bright future.”
Seth Hebert had 11 goals and 15 assists for Lloydminster this year.
In Langridge’s words, Hebert is “an intelligent hockey player with great work ethic, who’s always in the right place at the right time.”
The North East Zone also boasts one of the top projected picks in this year’s WHL Bantam Draft. Connor McClennon will suit up alongside Hebert and Macaulay. McClennon is a Wainwright product.
Seth Hebert says about his excitement, “it’s a once in a lifetime thing, I’m pumped!”
A.J. Macaulay explains he’s “honoured and excited to have been selected to play for Team North East and play against, and with the best players in Alberta.”
Alberta Cup details
There are eight teams that will compete in the Alberta Cup from all over Alberta. Each corner of Alberta, plus two Edmonton and Calgary teams and a central team make up the schedule. Once again, the tournament runs from April 26 – April 30 in Canmore.
