Yaks Shut Out Saints
Silvestre records forth shut out of the season
After two scoreless periods, the Bonnyville Jr A Pontiacs broke through Spruce Grove’s goalie, Nolan Kent in third with two goals from Alden Dupuis and an empty netter from Isaac Saniga to take the Saints 3-0 on Friday evening. With the win, the Pontiacs are two points behind the Saints in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) standings; the Yaks in 4th and the Saints in 3rd.
“It doesn’t have to be complicated,” head coach of the Bonnyville Jr A Pontiacs, Rick Swan, says his pregame message to the club was to keep the game simple. “There was no stone unturned. We’re prepared and ready for anything. Everybody knows what to do and how to play the game at this time of the year.”
“It’s discipline and hardwork to effectively will yourself to win such a tight checking game; it could’ve been 1-0,” traditionally the Pontiacs and the Saints have been closely matched. “Sandro Silvestre stood on his head,” coach says the 18 year old Montreal born goaltender was alive at Friday’s game. Recording his forth shutout of the season, saving 23 shots on net. He saw everything.
