Cold Lake RCMP recover stolen vehicles and charge three youths
On Feb. 13, 2017 at 6:00 a.m., Cold Lake RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle in Cold Lake. The vehicle was located parked in a secluded area on the Elizabeth Metis Settlement along with a second stolen vehicle. While investigating, a third stolen vehicle arrived at the location. Three male youth occupants of the third stolen vehicle attempted to flee the area on foot.
One youth suspect was arrested without incident. While fleeing, the second youth suspect sprayed officers and an RCMP police dog with bear spray. The officers and the police dog did not suffer serious injuries as a result. The third youth suspect was later tracked by police dog in the area. Both youths who fled sustained minor injuries during arrest and were treated by EMS before being taken into custody.
All three vehicles recovered at the scene were previously reported stolen from Cold Lake and Bonnyville.
A 14-year-old and two 17-year-old youths were charged with multiple offences which include:
- Obstruction of a police officer
- Assault of a police officer
- Possession of a weapon/prohibited device
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00
- Fail to comply with recognizance
- Fail to comply with probation order
The youths who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act were remanded into custody. They are set to appear in Cold Lake Provincial court via CCTV on Feb. 22, 2017 and March 8, 2017.
As the matter is now before the courts no further information will be provided.
