Campaign to bring awareness & end domestic violence

The Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre’s Bonnyville Community Support Program is holding a fundraising and awareness event called ‘Walk A Mile In Her Shoes.’ This is an international men’s march to bring awareness to the issue of domestic violence. The event is scheduled for February 17th at 7:00pm at the Pontiac’s Home game in Bonnyville at the C2 . Now they need men to join in!
It is important to have men in public positions help make this statement with us, such as our mayor and council, our police and peace officers, especially in uniform. This shows that you understand and support those affected by gender violence and that those in authority will do what is in their power to stop the cycle of violence and increase public awareness of our cause.

There is an old saying, “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men to literally walk a mile in women’s high‐heeled shoes. It’s not easy walking in these shoes, but its fun and it gets the community to talk about something that’s really difficult to talk about: violence against women.

This event not only endeavors to provide an opportunity for a unique perspective for men but also to better the lives of people in need. All funds raised will be used for support programs at the Dr. Margaret Savage Crisis Centre, a vital organization within our community.
The Bonnyville Community Support Program launched in March of 2016 to serve the people of Bonnyville and area, in addition to the services already offered in the Cold Lake area. The Program helps those who are affected by domestic violence. Since the program’s launch 45 files have been opened. This is a much‐needed resource in our community and the demand for our resources is increasing.
