AG Ross Arena Receives $54K in Canada 150 Funding

Matching grant will be used for upgrades to the rink

The AG Ross Arena in Elk Point has received $54,235 as a Canada 150 project. The Elk Point Agricultural Society, which oversees the operations of the arena, will use the money for a new condenser, new roof for the zamboni room and new lighting for the hallways and dressing rooms, confirms Doug Bassett.

Bassett says the AG Society will match the grant 50/50 to bring the number to $108,470 in repairs. Some of the jobs are already completed, “we had to repair the roof and when we did, we found out that the condenser was in bad shape. We had enough money to do it, but we would have been short funds to pay our power bill (and other operating costs), if we hadn’t received the grant.”

With the new lights, the annual operating costs should see a reduction, says Bassett, “the new lights will be much more efficient and will save money on our usage.” They’re also aesthetically pleasing, “plus, it will really brighten up the arena for the upcoming provincial tournament.” The community is hosting Midget D Provincials March 24-26th. Bassett says there will be some other minor projects completed before provincials; including painting the lobby and hallways.
