Local Artists Wanted for Canada 150 Project

The Bonnyville Friendship Centre is working on a commemorative art piece to showcase the multi-cultural diversity that Bonnyville offers with a Canadian perspective. Friendship Centre Executive Director, Lauri Fitzpatrick explains the organization is going after grant funding to help bring the large scale art piece to life.

The vision for the project is to use puzzle pieces/shaped artwork to form a Canadian-themed mosaic or collage. The goal is to include artwork from all the various community groups in Bonnyville. Artists wanting to participate are asked to design a prototype with this vision and goal in mind.

“We’re trying to figure out the location,” Fitzpatrick says the group hopes to display the piece in a public area that is easily accessible to all and can be seen by visitors of the community. “We want everyone to be able to see it.” Once funding and space are determined, the group will know whether the piece will be outside or inside. They also want to see what ideas the potential artists have, as that could determine placement too.

Plans are to go through with the piece, with or without grant funding, but the size of the art piece will be determined by the amount of funding that the group receives. “The Town is supporting the project,” Fitzpatrick says no matter what there will be an art piece to celebrate the town and Canada’s 150. Plans are to reveal the piece on June 30th, in time for the Canada Day Celebrations.

If you are interested in participating in the project by submitting an idea for the art piece, contact Lauri Fitzpatrick at 780-826-3374, email bcnfced@incentre.net or mail your submission to:
