Alden Dupuis is spending his Christmas break in Rochester, New York, on the minds, and in the face of some major scouts. The 20 year old, power forward, who’s on his forth year with the Bonnyville Jr A Pontiacs, is preparing to leave the organization, after aging out this season. With 38 points in 37 games, Dupuis has been gaining a lot of attention from some major scouts, boast coach, Rick Swan.

“Imagine the best kid that you know and times that by five, that’s what you have for a human being off the ice,” Swan says Dupuis’ character is a shining example of what the coach hopes all of his players will achieve. Along with a strong off-ice attitude, that’s an inspiration to his peers, Dupuis has mad skills, says Swan. “On the ice, he’s a guy that’s not only the smartest player that I’ve coach, with and without the puck. He’s a guy that just does things the right way. He understands that doing it right is an all the time thing. Combine that with his character and it’s a no brainer that he’ll be playing at the next level and enhance that culture.”

Dupuis was flown down to visit the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), which is a Division 1 NCAA school. Coach Swan couldn’t be more proud of Dupuis, “a lot of guys love him and I think they’re recognizing his consistency, that he started at the beginning of the year to now. That’s something they wanted to see.” Swan says thanks to Dupuis’ work ethic a lot of major NCAA schools are taking notice of the left handed centerman from Edmonton. “New Hampshire’s excited about him, Yale’s excited about him, American International College is excited!” Swan is joyful for the opportunities open to Dupuis. “We’re excited for him!”.

The Pontiacs’ organization strives to enhance the game for each player. Coach Swan wants to see his team excel past the organization and works to create post-junior A opportunities for his players. Recently, Derek Brown committed to the Arizona Sun Devils, making him the 36th Pontiac player to commit to college (NCAA, CIS, ACAC), since 2012/13. Brown will join former teammates, Stenn and Brinson Pasichnuk in Arizona.
