“It was a good one,” laughs Coach for the Elk Point Elks, Murray Cochrane, who adds this was the first win over the Elks have had over the Marwayne Comets, in the SaskAlta Sr Men’s Hockey League, in a number of years. “It was pretty crazy, I can’t believe it. For us to beat Marwayne… that was the first time in at least a few years.”

“It was nice to beat them and hats off to the goaltending, on both sides,” Cochrane says the goaltending on both sides of the ice was unbelievable. The game ended with even number of shots on goal, 38 and went to twelve shootout rounds for Elks’  MARK BRODBIN to finally pop one past DUSTIN IRVINE.

It wasn’t the first goal of the game for BRODBIN, who actually opened the game with a goal in the second period, from CHEVY BOTTING and SEAN JOLY. Marwayne’s  JUSTIN BYRNE responded before the close of 40, to make it a 1-1 game.

Marwayne got the go-ahead, from  MYLES BAPTISTE at 8:58 in the final period. It took eleven minutes of hard battling for the Elks to force OT, with a goal from MATTHEW BOULIANNE, assist from SEAN JOLY.

After a round of extra time the game went to a shootout.  For the SaskAlta Sr Men’ Hockey League, a shootout goes five and five, then one by one until there is a victor. “Their first shooter scored, then our forth shooter scored, which was JORDYN WOZNIAK.” It continued on after five shooters from each side were not successful until BRODBIN got up and fired away.

The Elks welcome Wainwright to the AG Ross Arena Friday at 8:30 pm. Beating Marwayne will definitely help the squad maintain the confidence needed to take the Rustlers; whom are undefeated thus far.
