Doonanco Guilty of Second Degree Murder
Debbie Doonanco found guilty of common law husband’s death
Retired school teacher, Deborah “Debbie” Doonanco, 53, has been found guilty of second degree murder in the death of her common law husband Kevin Feland. Glendon resident Doonanco admitted to she shooting her ex-husband, in May of 2014, then setting his body and the house on fire; however she claimed self-defense in court.
Doonanco attempted to prove that she suffered from “Battered Wives Syndrome” and was not criminally responsible for the death of Feland, because she had feared for her own life.
Doonanco has been remanded into custody until the sentencing hearing in January, after the judge revoked her bail. Doonanco was also found guilty of arson and committing an indignity to a body.
She faces a life sentence with no chance of parole for from 10 to 25 years.
Doonanco is expected to appeal the verdict.
