Community comes together to support Santa’s Anonymous
Instead of pocketing all that they saved at Saturday’s Extravaganza, Elk Point shoppers shared their change with the Community Lions’ Santa’s Anonymous campaign. Lions members stationed at the entrance to the Co-op were thrilled with the generosity of patrons who donated to the annual Christmas card fundraiser. The card with donors’ names is posted on the outdoor bulletin board south of the Elk Point post office.
The Lions club collects cash and unwrapped toys to provide Christmas food and gift hampers to local families in financial difficulty. Last year required the highest number of hampers to date, so the club is encouraged by the this year’s donations from patrons at the CoOp. The club also appreciates all the company Christmas parties, church services, talent performances, family gatherings, sporting events, and youth functions at which collections are taken and donated to Santa’s Anonymous. All the proceeds are used to provide turkey dinners to families as well as gloves, toques, and gifts to children in need within Elk Point and the surrounding area.
On Tuesday, December 6, the Co-op will have Good Buy to Hunger food bags for sale, and these bags will also be distributed by the Lions.
Further donations of new, unwrapped toys can be left in boxes set up around town until December 15. Anyone with a cash donation or aware of someone in need can contact Elk Point FCSS at 780 724-3800.
