14 year old charged with 28 offenses following robberies

Cold Lake RCMP have made an arrest in relation to the second suspect involved in three robberies that occurred in the City of Cold Lake on July 8, 2016.  Cold Lake RCMP have charged a 14 year old male youth with a total of 28 charges.  The following charges stem from the July 8th robberies where bear spray was used on 5 victims as a weapon:

  • Robbery x 3.
  • Assault With a Weapon x 5.
  • Fail to Comply With a Recognizance x 3.
  • Administering a noxious thing x 5.

This same 14 year old youth has also been charged with the following charges stemming from other investigations:

  • Mischief Under $5000.00.
  • Fail to Comply With a Recognizance x 5.
  • Robbery x 3.
  • Break and Enter into a Dwelling House and Commit Robbery.
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000.00.
  • Theft Under $5000.00

On November 9, 2016, the 14 year old youth broke into a residence in Cold Lake and robbed three of the occupants at knife point.  The 14 year old youth who cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been remanded into custody and will be next appearing at Cold Lake Youth Justice Court via CCTV on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at 10:00 a.m.

Background

On Friday, July 8, 2016, between 9:10 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Cold Lake RCMP were dispatched to 3 Liquor Store robberies within a 20 minute period.  Cold Lake RCMP responded to robberies at Best Spirits Wine & Liquor Shoppe, Sobey’s Liquor on 51st Street and PJ’s Liquor Store.  In all three cases liquor store staff were bear sprayed.  At two of the locations alcohol was also stolen.  Both suspects are described as aboriginal males and under the age of 16 years old.  One suspect was wearing a red shirt with letters across the front, light coloured shorts, a black ball cap with a white brim and a white symbol on the front.  The 2nd suspect was wearing a white or grey coloured t-shirt.  RCMP are also searching for an older model Green GMC truck that was involved in the robberies.
