St. Paul Canadiens remain at the top of the NEAJBHL

A win over the Lloydminister Bandits on Friday has secured the top spot for the St. Paul Canadiens for another week, as the club remains undefeated. Coach for the Canadiens, Joe Young says even with success comes challenges, “a little in consistency is starting to creep into our game a little bit. We need to sharpen up a little and play with a little more passion.”

It’s a challenge that many coaches face when players start to feel secure; which may explain how Lloyd managed to get two goals on the Canadiens early in the first, from Jesse Stansfield at 4:02 and then Zach Hilsendager at 5:21. The Canadiens were able to close the gap some before leaving the first period with a goal at 9:25 from Ryan Rancier, assists to Ryley Wozniak and Roddy MacDougall.

Heading into the second, the Bandits had a 2-1 lead over the Canadiens, but it wouldn’t last long. Battling through some chippy plays and 170 minutes of penalties, Braydon Burak got the tying goal from Wozniak at 4:21.  Brodin Ference with the go-ahead from Jareh Gray and Burak, to end the period 3-2 Canadiens.

The clubs cooled off as the zamboni made its rounds, came out to a cleaner game. Lloyd tied it up a minute into the period from Quinten Stewart; but the Zach attack prevailed.  Zach Sylvestre and Zach Bendall both put in goals to close out the game at 5-3 for the St. Paul Canadiens.

“Going into this weekend, we have two big game, against Killiam and then Cold Lake. The guys will be ready for that,” assure Coach Young.
