Could’ve, Should’ve, Would’ve
Tales from the Timebox: November 1st, 2016
The Midget Avalanche should have been able to tie up the game with a two man advantage to start the third period for almost a full minute and half, but they failed to get a shot on net. It’s better to throw a little wrister on net and pounce on the rebound than to miss completely with a big wind up and slap shot that ends up coming all the way back over the blue line. ..
The Av’s came out fired up Friday night, Nick ‘ Sparky ‘Anderson and Brody ‘ The Big O’ Odgaard both scored hat tricks early in the game the when the Midget Avalanche hosted Kikino; but, it wasn’t enough. Even when the birthday boy Hayden ‘ Hot Wheels” Ludlage scored with only 3 minutes left and coach Gerry Kjenner called a time out to pull the goalie and add an extra attacker it still wasn’t enough. Losing the game against the Red Army (not by much) the final 8-7.
Every time our boys would score the Red Army would come marching down the ice and score one too. Back and forth like a yo -yo until the start of third period when the Red Army were down by two men for a full minute and 20 seconds. Two assists for defenseman Cyle ‘ Grinder ‘ Graus. Christian, ‘ Wheels’ Castle -Wasson, Angus ‘Micky’ McFarlane and Bowen Krider also with assists. Team captain Austin ‘ Ozzie’ Stafford with an assist too. I think I will start calling him ‘Captain Obvious ‘. He looks like a real leader ever since they put the C on his sweater, doing everything possible to motive his troops, skating hard, checking and leading by example.
On Sunday when the midget team traveled to Wainwright. ‘Captain Obvious’ was leading the way with the first goal, assisted by Sparky. Then ‘Sparky’ with one on his own; it wasn’t enough against this big team, losing the game 6-2.
There is one positive, our boys only spent 8 minutes in the sin bin, the Bisons in the penalty box for 22 minutes plus a 10 minute misconduct. Then again, just like Friday night, that also tells me that we had lots of opportunities to score… So what happened? We need to work on our P.P. and take advantage of those situations!
A terrific start to the season for head coach James Capjack and his Atom team winning their second game of the year in Glendon this past Sunday, 8-0 . The defense was solid allowing only 5 shots on the goalie ‘ Kid Kade’ Fontaine. A hat trick for ‘King Kong Konnor ‘ Poitras plus an assist. Phoenix Canning with a goal and two assists. Gavin ‘ Giver’ Kadutski, Sam ‘ Spiderman’ Rogal, and “Bo Diddley’ Fontaine, also all scoring, Ryan ‘ Ram Rod’ Cameron, Cash ‘CC’ Capjack with assists too.
A rough start for goalie Raif ‘ Rug Rat’ Evans Anderson between the pipes on Saturday at home, he was bombarded with almost 60 shots when the novice 1 A team hosted a strong team from Cold Lake. Madden ‘ Mad Dog’ Flammond scoring the only goal for the Avalanche in this one sided event. On Sunday they had a much closer contest in Frog Lake, Trace Morgan getting the call and strapping on the big pads for his first opportunity ever to play in goal, the team losing by 7 to 4. ‘ Mad Dog’ with a hat trick, ‘ Hurricane Kayl’ Warawa with a goal assisted by the ‘Rug Rat’ and Boe Johnson.
The Novice 1 B team played at home on Sunday winning 4 to 2 over Bonnyville . Getting off his leash Evett ‘ Snoopy’ Smereka with 2 goals and an assist, Brendan Kadutski and Ryley’ Coyote’ Bourne with one each. Braylee’ BJ’ Lesyk with an assist.
A big ten four good buddy…..but not for the peewee Avalanche boys who played at home on Saturday against St. Paul…. losing this one 10 to 4. Still not a terrible score against one of the stronger teams in the league. ‘ Mic Jager ‘ Fontaine with a hat trick and an assist, the ‘ Magnificent ‘ Landon Malachowski with a goal and an assist, Brady’ the Bionic Man’ Hymanyk and ‘ Wild Wyatt’ Pavoll with assists.
Wolke’ Wolfman’ Cueva with a hat trick, two goals each for Charlie ‘ the Angel ‘ Rogal and Jaden ‘ Jet Stream’ Van Maarion. ‘ Hank the Tank’ Rogal, Evan ‘ Batman’ Ockerman, ‘Lightning Liam Ludlage and ‘ King Cole’ Bendixen all with goals . ‘ Silent Sam’ Henderson, his twin sister ‘ Raging Paige’ Henderson and Matthew Quinney kicking in with assists.
And now for the K. A. Campbell quote of the week. “You get the best effort from others not by lighting a fire beneath them, but by building a fire within.” – Bob Nelson.
