Now that the summer is over, our Wildrose team is hard at work preparing for the upcoming fall sitting of the legislature, where we will hold the NDP government to account and present our ideas to promotes jobs, growth and prosperity.
On the looming fiscal challenges facing the province, Wildrose is pushing to make our government smaller and more efficient. Given that we have the most expensive government in Canada, we know there are targeted and measured ways to reduce the size of government without hurting front-line services.
We know government should not be about dollars spent, but people served.
With 22 experienced MLAs, Wildrose was elected on a mandate to propose ideas to help clean up government and solve the difficult economic and fiscal challenges our province is facing.
For example, Wildrose has already put out a comprehensive report with new proposals to strengthen Alberta’s legislature and democracy. We believe we can work on these ideas with the NDP to restore trust back to public office and ensure government works on behalf of Albertans.
But let there be no question, there are some serious red flags in the NDP’s manifesto that we will be searching for answers on over the coming months. Wildrose will continue to look for solutions that Albertans have come to expect from its government. Not the socialist ideology rhetoric that the current NDP is running towards.
For example, we remember the economic challenges Alberta faced during the last royalty review. We remember Bill 6, also known as the NDP farm bill. We remember the NDP carbon tax hike on all Alberta families. We remember that massive debt taken out needs to be paid back someday.
During this time of low oil prices and economic uncertainty, we need to be creating a friendly environment for investment, not putting up walls. We don’t believe the attack on our small businesses throughout the Lakeland by increasing business taxes and minimum wage help get Albertans back to work?
As your MLA, I am ready to roll up my sleeves for another session and hold the NDP to account on these issues, and make sure the voice of our community is heard.
In the 2015 election, we promised to stand up for Albertans and fight for your priorities: balanced budgets, patient-centred health care, world-class education, strengthening democracy and building our communities.
That’s exactly what we intend to do. More specifically that’s exactly what I intend to do.
Albertans trusted us with a strong mandate to serve as Alberta’s Official Opposition and fight for the issues that matter most to Alberta families, and we take that trust very seriously. We will always remember we did not get here by ourselves, and we are not here for ourselves. We are here to serve the people of Alberta.
What do you think about these issues? I encourage you to visit my constituency office and sit down with me for a cup of coffee to talk about the issues that matter most to you and your family.
