Northern Lights elects New Board Chair

Skogen Replaces Hrynyk as Board Chair

Northern Lights Public  Schools is pleased to announce that Trustee Mandi Skogen will  serve as Board Chair for the 2016-2017 school year. Skogen was elected to the position at the Board’s organizational meeting yesterday (Monday, August 29th). This is Skogen’s first term as a school board trustee. She was elected to the Board in Ward 2 – Cold Lake in October of 2013.

“I am honoured to be selected to serve as Chair,” said Skogen. “I have learned a lot over the last three years and look forward to learning even more as the Chair and working together with the Board and everyone in the division to provide our students with opportunities to excel.”

Former Board Chair Arlene Hrynyk was elected to serve as Vice-Chair for the 2016-17 school year. She had been nominated for Chair, but declined the nomination, citing her work as President of the Public School Boards’ Association, and the need for succession planning for Northern Lights.  “It’s been a wonderful journey with lots of learning,” Hrynyk said. “Many exciting things are coming together for Northern Lights and I believe we have the winning team moving forward. I am pleased to have served as chair and am pleased to serve as vice-chair and assist Mandi in her new role.”
