RCMP Warn of Drinking & Boating
Drunk Driving a Boat has same Punishment as Car
The Cold Lake RCMP Detachment would like to remind the public that drinking and driving a water vessel comes with the same consequences as a land vehicle. If you are found guilty driving a water vessel when impaired, your motor vehicle license will be suspended.
The reminder comes after the Cold Lake RCMP responded to a report that someone was operating a seadoo in a dangerous manner on Crane Lake. The complainant had suspected the operator of being impaired. However, when the police arrived the person was no longer on the water and could not be found.
The RCMP would like to remind the public that drinking and boating is not only dangerous, but can lead to serious consequences. The same impaired laws that apply to a motor vehicle and vessel also apply to an aircraft and railway equipment. Charges can be laid on the operator or anyone who is assisting the operator; whether or not in motion.
