St. Paul Airport to get Military Treatment
The St. Paul Airport will be undergoing some testing of the runway by 4-Wing Cold Lake. CFB Cold Lake has requested use of the airport and the runway to help train personnel from the 4 Construction Engineering Squadron. The course will look at various aspects of the runway and its functionality and when the testing is complete the Town will be provided with a full report. There will no cost to the Town to have the testing done.
Mayor Glenn Andersen says, “there’s nothing we had to do, it’s free.” Council agreed it was a great opportunity for the Town’s airport and it could open opportunities.
The testing will look into four areas:
- Overall Dimensions
- Roughness Evaluation
- Soil Bearing Capacity
- Obstacle Limitation
The final result is an Airfield Surface & Reconnaissance Report which determines the allowable gross load of or number of passes of a certain aircraft category in the airfield can sustain before the airfield or aircraft is damaged.
