Youth Charged for Random Assaults on Canada Day in Cold Lake

“We had quite a busy Canada Day,” states the Cold Lake RCMP Detachment S/Sgt, Jeremie Landry. During Canada Day, S/Sgt Landry reports the Cold Lake Detachment had 45 calls for service, one of those calls involved assault to innocent bystanders.

“One of the complaints we had received, in the evening of Canada Day, approximately 8:45 pm, involved multiple 911 calls, reporting a male was running up to random people on Kinosoo Beach punching them in the face.” S/Sgt Landry says RCMP were able to quickly stop the man, “RCMP were already on scene, as we had an excellent presence on Canada Day, on the beach. We quickly located the individual that was running around and assaulting random people.”

A 16 year old male, from Cold Lake, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault. The male was released on an undertaking for his court date; which include, abstaining from alcohol or other intoxicating substances and keeping the peace. The youth cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

S/Sgt Landry believes due to the high number of 911 calls there could be more people who were assaulted; however at the time of the arrest only two were willing to come forward, make a statement and press charges.
