Last Updated: June 23, 2016By Tags: , ,

UPDATE

Canadian Natural has returned to normal operations at our Primrose and Wolf Lake operations following the completion of a safe and staged start-up of production.

BACKGROUND

At approximately 11:00 am this morning during maintenance activities at Canadian Natural’s Wolf Lake Plant, a fire started within Unit #2 of the facility to which our staff immediately responded with the activation of our emergency response plan, including contacting the Bonnyville fire department.

The fire department quickly and successfully extinguished the fire at the unit, and Canadian Natural is appreciative for their strong efforts. Canadian Natural had completed a full and safe evacuation of approximately 100 employees and contract staff from the Wolf Lake Plant. All Canadian Natural personnel are safe and accounted for with no reported injuries.

In response to this incident, Canadian Natural temporarily shut-in approximately 56,000 bbl/d of production at our Primrose thermal in situ operations. However, we are currently in the process of a safe and staged restart of operations with only minor repairs required in Unit #2 where the maintenance activities were taking place. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
