Cop Corner w/ S/Sgt Luis Gandolfi

We’re trending down on the property crime front but only a few months ago our theft rates were actually quite high.  Everything from tools to generators, vehicle contents, mail boxes, open garages, and everything in between.  Our persons crimes like assaults were down, but thefts were certainly up.

For whatever reason we seem to be through the worst of it but lessons can be learned from this experience.  Benjamin Franklin once said that, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”   Those words certainly ring true when it comes to property crimes.  And it could be as simple as locking your vehicle when you leave it unattended.  You wouldn’t believe the number of reports we get from owners who simply forgot to lock their doors and now have an insurance claim to deal with.

Technology has changed and there are new tools available to us such as covert or wildlife cameras or so called Smart Home technology which changes the way we can safeguard our property.  Imagine installing sensors at home that identify motion, water leaks, carbon monoxide, or even fires and notify authorities while sending you a text message or an e-mail.  This technology doesn’t have to come with a contract either.  In fact some of our most popular big box stores have stand alone security systems that notify YOU when they detect a problem.  These technologies have an up front cost to be sure, but most policies come with a deductible that far exceeds these costs.

Consider what Ben Franklin said, and remember we’re here to help if you have any questions.  Stay safe.
