Fraud

The Cold Lake RCMP Detachment would like to remind the public of fraud calls that have been going around. One of the most common calls involves the caller claiming to be with the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA). The caller will claim the victim owes money in taxes or that there was a mistake when he/she filed. The CRA does not make phone calls of this nature and does not ask for payment over the phone or through gift cards. The best advice is to be aware of these fraudulent calls. If you receive a call from the CRA ask for your case number and call the CRA at  1-800-267-6999. Do not call the number given to you by the caller and never give money or financial information over the phone.
