Since Fort McMurray fire evacuees started arriving in our region, the Bonnyville SPCA has opened their doors to displaced pets.
“We’ve basically been offering boarding to those who are in our area,” said shelter manager, Heather Mutch. “Obviously we are not charging the people of Fort McMurray.”
While the SPCA is trying to keep these pets on their familiar diets, there are some who are adjusting to the new food being offered. In addition to feeding and housing these animals, the SPCA has also been offering free tick and flea treatments.
At this time, due to the added expense of looking after these animals, the SPCA is in need of a few things – non-clumping kitty litter as well as dog and cat food. They will also accept cash donations to help cover the costs associated with treating the furry friends of Fort McMurray.
Donations can be dropped off at 5601-54th Ave. You can also contact the shelter at 780-826-3230.
