NHL Stars Return Home for Golf Tournament
The Bonnyville Jr Pontiacs are inviting former players back on May 28th, for the First Annual Bonnyville Pontiacs Alumni Golf Tournament. Three NHL stars, Justin Fontaine (Minnesota Wild), Mark Letestu (Edmonton Oilers), and Jon Kalinski (Philadelphia Flyers ’08-10) will all be participating in the tournament and could even play a round with you, says Assistant Coach of the Pontiacs, and event organizer, Mark Jensen.
“After registration on the Saturday morning, once everyone is in their groups, you’ll have an opportunity to bid on [the NHL players] in a live auction. They will become your fifth golfer,” Jensen explains that having an NHLer on your team would be doubly beneficial. Not only would you get to hang out with the player all day, but the tournament is Texas Scramble style, so your team will have that extra shot.
There will be prizes throughout the game, including the typical best balls, longest drive, and hole-in-ones. Jensen says there will also be team prizes at the end of the event. The day includes a dinner and opportunities for all to mingle with the stars. “The NHL players will be available after the game and will be sticking around to give everyone a chance to talk with them,” confirms Jensen.
The tournament is not only about the players that went onto the NHL, Jensen says the tournament will serve to honour alumni of all levels, and many former Pontiac players have already RSVP’d. There are still spots available for the public in the tournament, “now that the weather’s nicer and people are getting out on the golf course more we expect those spots to fill up,” says Jensen.
