LCSD Excited for Opening of New School in Lac La Biche

“We’re very excited to be opening for the 2016-17 school year; it’s been a long-time coming,” Amanda Wildman, Communications Officer with Lakeland Catholic School District (LCSD) confirms the District will offer classes for Preschool to Grade 9 in Lac La Biche.

“We will be located in the former Dr. Swift Middle School.” The facility, formerly owned by Northern Lights School Division (NLSD) was taken over by LCSD after an arrangement between the two school boards was reached. NLSD no longer needed the building after opening J.A Williams.

LCSD will be hosting an information session, May 12th, at 7:00pm for parents interested in learning more about the school. For Preschool and Kindergarten, there will be a special session on May 16th at 5:00pm and 6:30pm, respectively. Both sessions will be held at MacCarthur Place in Lac La Biche.

The name of the school is yet to be announce, says Wildman. There has been a few names the board likes, however they need to speak with some key stakeholders to make the final decision. LCSD also hopes to expand into senior high school in the coming years.

For now, the school has hired a Principal (press release below) and is looking for teaching and support staff. More information can be found online.
