Cold Lake Man Charged after Attempting to Conceal Drugs in Lockup
A Cold Lake man in police custody had attempted to conceal drugs; however, they were eventually located… the hard way.
At approximately 3:00 pm, on April 7th, Cold Lake RCMP conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle travelling west on Highway 55. The stop led to three people being arrested, “there was also illegal substances that were seized,” says S/Sgt. Jeremie Landry of the Cold Lake Detachment.
Of the three arrested one had a multitude of charges. 32 year old, Michael Possberg, from Cold Lake was arrested with charges pending for two counts of failing to comply with a recognizance, possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order (homemade knife), theft under $5,000 and theft over $5,000, failing to appear in court and resisting arrest via obstruction by providing a false name.
Police seized 60 pills, S/Sgt Landry says the pills have been sent for testing, “they are believed to be a controlled substance and have been sent for further analysis.” At the time of the traffic stop, S/Sgt. Landry says Possberg was a wanted man, “he had a warrant for his arrest and outstanding charges out of Red Deer.”
While in police custody, Possberg was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Possberg had, “concealed the drug and it was eventually found,” S/Sgt. Landry leaves the rest to the imagination. On April 14th an additional charges of possession of a controlled substance, and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order were added to Possberg’s list of accused offenses.
Possberg appeared in Cold Lake Provincial Court and was released on $1,000 cash bail, with a Cold Lake Provincial Court date of April 27th. He is to appear in at a Red Deer court on April 22nd.
