Traffic Stop Leads to Possession Charges on Bonnyville Woman
On March 19th, 2016 at approximately 2:00 AM, a Constable with the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment was conducting routine patrols within the town of Bonnyville. The Constable observed a vehicle with a license plate falling off of it and conducted a traffic stop to ensure that the vehicle was not stolen and that the registration was valid. Through investigation the Constable determined that the vehicle was not stolen however neither occupant was the registered owner.
While speaking to the occupants, both known to the police, the Constable observed an odour of marihuana coming from the vehicle. The passenger, a 34 year old female resident of Bonnyville, was arrested for her outstanding warrants from Cold Lake RCMP while the driver was arrested for Possession of Marihuana. Search of the vehicle incidental to arrest located a purse containing a baggy of what is believed to be Methamphetamine and a small trace of marihuana was located in the vehicle as well. The driver advised that the marihuana belonged to him however due to the trace amount he was released with a warning but without charges.
The female was released on court compelling documents to attend Bonnyville Provincial Court for a charge of Possession of Methamphetamine and to attend Cold Lake Provincial Court for her outstanding warrants.
