Bonnyville RCMP Remind Motorist- Don’t Drink & Drive

The Bonnyville RCMP Detachment has dealt with a couple of cases of impaired driving in the last week. The detachment would like to remind motorists not to drink & drive and to plan ahead for transportation should you be consuming alcohol.

On March 18th, 2016 at approximately 1:00 AM, Constables with the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment were on patrol near the Crown and Derby Pub and observed a vehicle with an obscured license plate exit the parking lot.  A traffic stop was initiated with the vehicle and a odour of alcohol was observed on the driver’s breath while he was dealing with police. The driver, a 26 year old male resident of Bonnyville, was detained and demanded to provide a sample of his breath while roadside which resulted in a reading over the provincial limit.  The male was issued a 72 hour driving suspension and his vehicle was removed from the roadway.

On March 21st, 2016 just after midnight, a Bonnyville RCMP Constable was conducting routine patrols in Kehewin, AB observed a suspicious vehicle.  A traffic stop was initiated with the vehicle and though investigation the Constable believed the driver, a 32 year old male resident of Kehewin, AB, to be impaired by alcohol.  The driver was arrested and demanded to provide a sample of his breath and therefore transported to the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment to do so.  The breath sample resulted in readings over twice the legal limit.

Constable Laura Carrol, with the Bonnyville Detachment says, “the male is known to police through his extensive criminal history with over 50 criminal code convictions including 4 related to driving.”  The male was brought before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into police custody pending future court dates.
