A Cold Lake man has received $3610 in fines following a traffic stop in Bonnyville. On the morning of March 7th, 2016, a Constable of the Bonnyville RCMP Detachment was on patrol in the town of Bonnyville and conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle on 50th Avenue after noting that the vehicle did not have a front bumper. Further checks on the vehicle noted that the license plate attached was not associated.
The male driver, 39 year old resident of Cold Lake, AB, and the female passenger, 39 year old resident of Cold Lake, AB, were detained, and later arrested, after being unable to produce any documentation for the vehicle. Search of the vehicle for documents revealed a meth pipe, liquor and a small amount of what appeared to be cocaine belonging to the female. The female was released on court compelling documents to attend Bonnyville Provincial Court for Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The male was released without criminal charges but was issued violation tickets for Operating a Vehicle without Insurance, Operating a Vehicle without Registration and Displaying License Plate that was Improperly Issued all under the Traffic Safety Act along with a violation ticket for having Liquor within easy access of an Occupant. The vehicle was seized until proof of registration and insurance can be provided.
