Opinions Wanted: NLSD Logo & Branding

Northern Lights School Division (NLSD) wants to hear from you! The school board is presenting its new, 20th anniversary logo, as well as, a possible name change to the Division. The Board is looking to adding the word “public” to its branding and changing Northern Lights School Division to Northern Lights Public Schools, says Communications Officer for NLSD, Nicole Garner.

“We’re looking at changing the name that we market ourselves with,” Garner explains the Board was wanting to add the word “public”. There’s still a lot of discussion needed on name changes because one simple change may turn into a big project. “One of the comments made was, if we changed that, would we have to change all of the names of our schools to include public.”

“We need a little bit more information on potential impact,”Garner says there’s the Board needs to decide if they want to do an entire re-branding campaign and change all NLSD images, websites, letterhead, etc or if the Boards wants to only change the name when referring to themselves. “not sure a huge change if you’re moving forward and whenever you do a new ad or something, you include that. But for instance, change the website address to match. We could refer to ourselves as ‘Northern Lights Public Schools’, but the official legal name wouldn’t change.”

Ultimately, the Board decided that the discussion will continue at the next board meeting, which will be held on March 9th. The Board will also give the public some time to provide feedback on the 20th Anniversary logo design.
