Kids will have a unique opportunity to learn from two former pro baseball players in a five-week training camp. The camp, which starts Sunday, is held at the Centennial Centre in Bonnyville, will teach kids the fundamentals of the game. Instructor Joe Young, says the camp is great for kids of all skill levels, from beginners to future pros.

“They’re going to learn the basics, and the proper mechanics; catching, throwing, pitching, and hitting. All aspects of the game.” Joe, who was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1993, says he and co-instructor, Reg Rivard have played together for many years and developed a real passion for the game. “It’s something that Reg and I have done for a long time, we’ve played the game at a high level and we’ve coached together before.” Reg played for Texas and Milwaukee organizations, and both he and Young were National Team Members.

“It’s going to be a fun camp, not only for us, but we want to make it fun for the kids too. We want to get them ready for ball season,” Joe explains, “the kids are going to learn a lot and I think we’re going to see big improvements, from the day they walk in, as they get ready for the season.”

The camp is designed to help beginner players, even ones who didn’t start ball at a young age and want to get into it now, says Joe, “we’re taking all kids, we wanna play and wanna learn, who are getting into it. I’ve talked to parents, their kids haven’t played and they wanna learn, this is the best place to do it. It’s in a controlled atmosphere, there’s going to be a lot of one-on-one and helping them get ready for the summer. It’s something, that if they’re inexperienced doing it, five weeks with us, they’re going to learn a lot.”

The clinic runs every Sunday, for the next five weeks, starting this Sunday, January 31st, 2015. There are three age categories. Limited spots available.
