Mayor Sobolewski to Host Q& A Monday

The Mayor of Bonnyville, Gene Sobolewski will be hosting an Q&A style “Meet the Mayor” for local business owners. The event, hosted by the Bonnyville & District Chamber of Commerce, will be held at the Shaw House, on Vezeau Beach, as a way for business owners to meet the Mayor, ask him questions concerning the local economy and discover the Mayor, and Council’s, vision for 2016 and beyond. Mayor Sobolewski says these types of events are an important way for him to connect with the residents and business community.

“Basically, we’re mid-way through our term and it’s good to get some feedback.” Mayor Sobolewski says it’ll be a relaxed environment, “generally, grab a coffee and have a discussion about what [Council] is planning, issue that are bothering people, making sure we’re on track.” The Mayor is known for getting out in the community, hosting open house style events, and getting to know the community, he says that comes with the job, “that’s who I am, personally. I’ve never been one to shy-away. If somebody’s got an issue, or somebody needs to talk, I’m always the first one there and I believe in that very strongly. People need to be able to express themselves, and try to keep it in the professional manner.”

Some of the issues the Mayor anticipates will be discussed are downtown parking, the downtown corridor, snow removal, “point the compass in any direction, I figure there’s some questions.” Nothing is off-limits, confirms Mayor Sobolewski, “mostly, what comes out of this is where the Town’s going. What are some of our ideas, because the business community pays a lot taxes, and they have a right to know what’s going on.”

This kind of dialogue is very good. -Gene Sobolewski Mayor of Bonnyville

Mayor Sobolewski says if you come and address a concern, he’ll be sure that Council and Administration hears about it, the issue won’t fall on deaf ears.
